I have had alopecia for over 20 years now and couldn't imagine a life with hair now. Although i really miss my brows and lashes it's a welcome comprise for the lack of grooming and hair styling. I love experimenting and the freedom of change when it comes to styles and colours. There's nothing worse than stepping out the hairdresser's hating your new look but wearing wigs allows me to trial and dismiss a "bad haircut" before it becomes the reality - who wouldn't love that.

I am excited for every visit to Parrucche, the friendliest welcome, admiring the beautiful space, the variety of choice and amazing staff are all the things that make me desperate to go back. The knowledge, creativity and skills these ladies have is incredible. Thank you for being my hairdresser, counsellor, biggest cheerleader but most importantly an amazing friend that I would never have found if it hadn't been for my alopecia.

I have had Alopecia Areata in various degrees from the age of 25. It started as hair loss under my ears and round the back of my hairline which is known as the Ophiasis pattern and started a year after my Dad was diagnosed with cancer.

Thankfully he made a full recovery but unfortunately despite going through the process of falling out and regrowing, this new condition I found myself with did not recover. At its worst, I have been completely bald with no eyebrows which was a real turning point for me as I decided I needed support outside of family and friends. I needed to be around people who 'got it' which is why I set up a support group in Glasgow. It's been the best thing I have ever done and have met so many wonderfully brave and inspiring people. Melanie and the lovely ladies at Parrucche have also been so instrumental in my acceptance and ability to cope with Alopecia. My appointments are highlights in my year and I always look forward to those ‘curve ball wigs’ which always look fab and yet I’d never think of going for! My advice is to seek others in a similar position if you have this condition as hopefully, you will feel the same benefits that I have.
