Types of wig fibres

Synthetic wigs

These are made from synthetic fibres and are generally more affordable, and easy to look after and lighter in weight to wear than Human Hair wigs.

They come pre-styled and are low maintenance, they have a ‘style memory’ so even after washing they bounce back to their original style, also regardless of the weather they retain their shape.

Style options are plentiful, as are the colour variety available in synthetic wigs.

Heat Stylable Options are now available in synthetic fibres meaning more styling versatility, and they tend to be a little less shiny than other synthetic fibres. They do however require more upkeep to minimise friction frizz.

Synthetic wigs cannot be coloured and unless they are heat friendly cannot be restyled with heat, and generally have a shorter lifespan than Human Hair Wigs.

Heat-stylable synthetic wigs

These wigs are made from specially designed synthetic fibres that are designed to take heat, giving them more versatility to be styled, a great benefit if you like to style your hair.

Being able to style your synthetic wig with heat gives more options to change up your look without needing another wig, bit it will need heat applied to maintain the fibres, Parrucche can provide guidance on the best aftercare products and on the heat temperature to be used on these wigs.

Some would say that Heat Stylable wigs are less shiny than traditional synthetic wigs, they are however more prone to frizz due to their fibre nature. Albeit this can be controlled with heat unlike traditional synthetic fibres.

Heat Stylable Synthetic wigs cannot be coloured, but with so many gorgeous colours available there is really no need to.

Human hair and synthetic blended wigs

These wigs are as titled in that they are a combination of fibres, the percentage of Human Hair in these wig types can vary from brand to brand.

These types of wigs generally come with a shape but can be styled using heat, and can hold their style longer than a Human Hair wig due to the synthetic fibre element.

They tend to be lighter in weight than purely Human Hair wigs, thus are quite comfortable to wear, and are less costly than Human Hair wigs but more than Synthetic hair.

These types of wigs are becoming more popular on the market due to the versatility and cost, however they are still quite limited in choices of style & colour.

Human hair

Made from real human hair, these wigs look more natural and can be styled like your own hair. The human hair type can vary from Indian, Chinese, European & Virgin Hair.

They are more expensive but also more durable, with the proper aftercare, Human Hair wigs can last over a year.

They require more maintenance than synthetic wigs and need styling after each wash, they are also reactive to weather in the same way as biological hair. E.g Frizzing / humidity

They can be coloured, which should be done professionally, and may need a colour refresh as they can oxidise over time which causes colour to fade, the proper aftercare products and routine will be key as to how long your wig will last.
